I had so much fun recommending cool gifts and gadgets for Christmas that I decided to put together a list for the rest of the year too. Sure…you can buy these for your family and friends, but wouldn’t it be more fun to keep them for yourself? I’ve scoured Amazon and beyond for the best of the best, so no need to search any longer.
Chico’s Top Picks For Gifts:
4K Streaming Device – There are a few options available for your 4K streaming needs. I would recommend getting either the Amazon Fire TV or the Apple TV. I personally own the Apple TV 4K and have owned multiple versions of the Apple TV all the way back to the very first iteration. You can Check Prices and decide on which one suits you best. The Apple 4K is a fantastic device and the picture quality is stunning when paired with the perfect HDR/4K TV.
There are a couple reasons why Amazon’s Fire TV might be the better choice for you, though. First thing of course, is the fact that it’s significantly cheaper. The Fire also offers Dolby Atmos audio right now, while the Apple TV has yet to add this feature. I’m already locked into the Apple, and they do plan to add Dolby Atmos…but if you can’t wait and want to save some money then Fire away.
Radioactive Elements Glowing Coaster Set – These are so cool, and a perfect gift for a chemist or anyone that wants to liven up their next party. The set comes with Plutonium, Radium, Uranium, and Thorium for your drink holding needs. For once, this is something that does come with batteries. Besides, they are nice whether they are lit up or not. At this price, you can afford to be blinded with the science!
Military Tactical Backpack – I reviewed this one for the Christmas list, but it’s worth repeating for sure. I got one before a cruise last Christmas and it really came in handy. It has a nice pocket for passports and reservations and all the straps and velcro you could ever desire. I had a separate camera case strapped on that allowed for extra storage space while still carrying just one item. Plus, you can get a Punisher velcro patch or something similar to stick on the front.
Echo Show – Of all the Alexa capable options, I think this is the one that will actually get me to jump into the smart device game. They all do some really cool things like controlling your lights, heating and air-conditioning units, locks, etc. I took a look at the new Echo Plus back in October and was almost convinced. But, what has me really excited about the Show is the ability to view my security cameras on its beautiful 7″ screen. You can also stream your music using its powerful speakers with Dolby processing. Yeah, this is gonna look great on the end table right next to my recliner!
Carhartt Pocket Long Sleeve T-Shirt – This is the most comfortable long sleeve shirt I’ve ever owned. I got it in X-large and even with my short arms there is no issue with the sleeve length. That’s usually the biggest obstacle for me looking for roomy shirts. Comfort goes out the window if I can’t keep extra material from restricting the use of my arms and hands. This shirt is so warm and comfortable, I haven’t worn anything else at home since it came in. I am currently picking out multiple color options for the same shirt on Amazon right now.
Keurig K-Cup Coffee Maker – I couldn’t start writing any of this until I made myself a cup of coffee with the Keurig. Not a problem of course…only takes a minute. If you don’t have one of these already, do yourself a favor and pick one up. This is the game changer for coffee drinkers. I held off on getting one for awhile, but when Dunkin Donuts became available in the K-cups I was all in. Get one for home and get one for the office as soon as you can.
Copper Mugs for Moscow Mule – I’ve loved this drink ever since I first discovered ginger beer. Initially, I used it to make the perfect Dark and Stormy. I suppose you could serve those up in these copper mugs too, but they are ideal for the Moscow Mule. The kit comes with everything you need; including mugs, jigger and straw. You’ll be mixing delicious cocktails in no time. There is also a book with ten other cocktail recipes for you to try. I’ve got my mug in the freezer right now, but I think I’ll add this set just to get the cool copper straws.
NFL Gridiron Junior-Size Football – Liven up your tailgate or Super Bowl party with one of these mini footballs. They are the perfect size to grab and toss around and are available for which ever your favorite team might be. It’s a great gift for the younger crowd or for those of us that refuse to grow up too. If you prefer, it would also make a great display piece for your office or man cave.
Apple 15″ MacBook Pro Retina w/ Touch Bar – I’m typing this, like everything I write, on my MacBook Pro with Touch Bar. It is definitely not the cheapest of laptops, but it’s clearly worth every penny. The Touch Bar is a really cool feature even if it’s usefulness is still somewhat limited. New functionality is added every day, but it’s worth it just for the ease of entering name and address information online.
The computer itself is gorgeous and fast, fast, fast. It never freezes up, it’s light enough to carry anywhere, and thin as a magazine (anyone remember those?) I recommend pairing it with this awesome stand, which allows you to use any laptop while reclining in comfort and with no overheating.
Wahl Clipper Lithium Ion #9818 – I’ve been searching for a mustache and beard trimmer for quite some time. I’ve never been able to find a good one that lasts longer than a few months. I’m tired of relying on a cheap pair of scissors to trim up my goatee. I believe I’ve finally found a match.
The Wahl is the best of any I’ve seen in a high-quality, stainless steel cordless trimmer. It comes with a patented self sharpening blade feature. It’s quite powerful as well and has extra long run time, using its lithium-ion technology. Yet, it trims nicely without pulling on your hair. Works equally great with heavier beards and performing delicate adjustments. As far as longevity goes, the five year warranty is as definitive a statement as you are going to get.
Ledger Nano S Cryptocurrency Hardware Wallet – Don’t let the hackers see your private information. In this day and age, you must protect your data at all cost. I just had a client fall victim to ransomware for the second time in two months. Losing access to your data is devastating enough, but having your identity or funds stolen is life changing. The Hardware Wallet is a great way to protect your data whenever you make transactions online.
Emergency Survival Kit – I love this type of thing. There is nothing like being prepared for an emergency. When Hurricane Sandy hit a few years back, I had already set us up with a generator and several portable lamps and heaters. It’s important to be ready on the go as well. With all the traveling I’ve had to do lately, I’m getting one of these for the car. It comes with a flint stone, scraper, flashlight, swiss card, mini light, compass, tactical knife, whistle, tungsten steel pen, and emergency blanket. It’s a great addition, whether for your next trip, or if you enjoy camping and hiking.
More to come.
